For Grown-Ups

Meet Renn

Renn is a warm-hearted fox-otter companion who joins children on adventures built around curiosity, kindness, confidence, and learning.

Renn begins with simple stories and activities for young children, but the larger vision is for his adventures to grow alongside developing readers.

A Renn Adventure

Each Renn adventure begins as a short illustrated story designed for young children and families to enjoy together.

Families can currently:

  • Read complete adventures online
  • Watch read-along videos
  • Color online
  • Print and download individual coloring pages
  • Choose printed books on Amazon if they want a physical copy

The same characters, stories, and worlds are designed to connect across books, video, coloring, and future learning experiences.

Learning is free. Ownership is optional.

A child should not need to own a physical book to enjoy Renn.

The core stories, read-alongs, and learning activities on hiRenn are being built around free access. Printed books and future physical products give families another way to enjoy Renn and help support the creation of more adventures.

Growing With Renn

Renn is being built around a simple idea:

Meet children where they are as readers, then let the adventures grow with them.

We are developing that progression in stages rather than trying to build everything at once.

LEVEL 1 —Ready to Read

Our current focus

Designed primarily around preschool and beginning pre-readers.

The goal is to build familiarity with books, language, sounds, letters, and storytelling before independent reading is expected.

Activities may include:

  • Read-aloud and read-along stories
  • Word highlighting while stories are spoken
  • Letter recognition
  • Letter tracing
  • Beginning letter sounds
  • Rhyming and sound awareness
  • Vocabulary
  • Matching and sorting
  • Colors, shapes, and simple concepts
  • Story sequencing
  • Picture-based comprehension
  • Coloring and creative activities
  • Repetition and predictable language

The goal is not simply to complete worksheets. It is to help children associate stories, words, sounds, and learning with a character and world they already enjoy.

LEVEL 2 —Learning to Read

Future

As children begin decoding words themselves, Renn adventures can become more reading-focused.

Planned areas include:

  • Early-reader stories
  • Letter-sound relationships
  • Decodable words
  • Word families
  • Common high-frequency words
  • Short sentences
  • Sentence building
  • Reading fluency
  • Beginning comprehension
  • Story sequencing
  • Simple writing activities

The stories can become longer while still keeping Renn and the familiar adventure format.

LEVEL 3 —Reading to Explore

Future

For children becoming more independent readers.

Potential areas include:

  • Longer adventures
  • More complex sentences
  • Richer vocabulary
  • Reading comprehension
  • Prediction and inference
  • Sequencing and summarizing
  • Writing prompts
  • Questions about characters and choices
  • Learning through science, nature, places, history, and other subjects

The long-term goal is for Renn to remain familiar even as the reading becomes more sophisticated.

Designed With Families in Mind

hiRenn is starting intentionally simple.

Right now, children can enjoy the main experiences without creating their own accounts, and online coloring can be used without storing finished artwork on our servers.

As hiRenn grows, if additional features are introduced, we will explain what information they use, why it is needed, and what choices families have.

We intend to design future features around age-appropriate experiences, minimizing unnecessary data collection, and clear information for parents and grown-ups.

For current details about data use and available features, please see our Privacy Policy.
